What is a Primary Election?
A Primary Election is a preliminary election held every 2 years in which voters choose their nominee in each district to represent their Party on the General Election ballot for November 2nd.
Who can vote in the Primary Election?
Everyone registered to vote in Tom Green County by February 1st is eligible. In Texas the primary is semi-closed. Voters do not register by Party when they apply to vote, but they must choose one Party’s ballot on which to vote in the Primary Election.
When is the Primary Election?
Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Early voting is from Tuesday, February 16th through Friday, February 26th.
Where is the Primary Election?
While voters must vote at the polling location in their neighborhood on Election Day, they may vote at any early-voting location in Tom Green County during the early-voting period.
Why is it important to vote in the Primary Election?
This is an extraordinary opportunity for the general public to participate in the election process. In other countries the government or the political parties have exclusive control over selection of candidates. A voter participating in the Primary Election and General Election is actually being heard twice.
What is a Precinct Convention?
The Precinct Convention elects delegates and alternates to attend the Senatorial District Convention and proposes resolutions for the SD Convention to consider. The SD Convention is an all-day event scheduled for Saturday, March 20th, held at various locations and times throughout the district. Delegates to the SD Convention elect delegates for the State Convention.
Who should participate in the Precinct Convention?
Anyone who participated in the Primary is eligible to attend his/her Party’s Precinct Convention.
When and where is the Precinct Convention?
At 7:15 pm or after the last voter has voted, and it is located at the voter’s polling location.
