UPDATE: The Essay Contest awards ceremony will be combined with the Constitution Seminar on Saturday, September 18th, rather than on Friday night. It will run from 1:30 – 2:15 pm.

The San Angelo TEA Party is proud to announce its 1st Annual Constitution Essay Contest. As our way of showing support for the spirit of 36 USC 106, which requires all educational facilities receiving federal funds to conduct training on the U.S. Constitution during the week of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, we will be conducting a contest, for the students of the Concho Valley, to express their understanding of, and commitment to, the Constitution of the United States of America.

As the topic of this year’s contest the students will be asked to answer the question, “Why did the Founding Fathers write the United States Constitution?”

CRY Out America – NATIONAL PRAYER EVENT

The San Angelo TEA Party has been asked to help spread the word about a local event to be held in commemoration of the anniversary of September 11th. Following are the details and contact information.

On September 11, 2001, Americans cried out to God. Extremists attacks brought the greatest wake up call to Americans in our generation. Our lives were changed forever. Millions fell to their knees. America was moved to action. Now 9 years later a new spiritual wake up call is being issued.

Today America is facing an even greater national, physical, economic,and spiritual crisis. Fear grips many of our citizens. The present moral and spiritual condition of our nation demands, united, decisive action. We need a new national spiritual awakening in our generation.

A quotation from John Adams in 1798 pretty well sums up our situation. “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” And Ronald Reagan said: “If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”

In response to this, those of us who believe prayer can save our nation, have joined with the Awakening America Alliance to call on Christians in every county, of every denomination, race, and age to unite, as we commemorate the memory of 9/11 with united prayer. We will gather at the place of justice ( the county courthouse) and cry out to God out for mercy for our nation, our county and our city. We will follow the prescription of 11 Chronicles 7:14 for our sick nation. “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Our local planning committee invites pastors and Christians to join us on the lawn of the Tom Green County Courthouse ( No seats will be available. Bring a lawn chair or a towel to kneel or sit on) on Saturday, September 11 at noon, from 12 to 1:00 PM. This will be a holy convocation, a sacred assembly patterned after Joel 1:14 We will also lift up Jesus and unite in a common pursuit to see God glorified, His Church revived. and our nation transformed with a GREAT AWAKENING that will impact not only our people, but the world. “The Citizen’s Guide to the Constitution” presented by Rick Green

The San Angelo TEA Party, Inc. is sponsoring “The Citizen’s Guide to the Constitution” presented by Rick Green Saturday, September 18th, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at The Heights Baptist Church. Those who have heard Rick Green before know he is a Constitutional scholar and dynamic speaker. This is a seminar no one should miss. To cover expenses yet still offer this event free to the public, we are asking for financial sponsors. Your contribution of $50 or $100 will help tremendously. Your name will be displayed on a banner at the seminar as our way of saying thank you. The San Angelo TEA Party is thrilled and honored to be able to offer this seminar. Our first Political Pot Luck on Aug 6th was a great success. Now we’re looking forward to making these get-togethers grow.

The next one will be Friday, Sept 10, starting around 6:00 p.m.

There’s no agenda. We just want to talk politics, maybe whine a little. Mostly we want to figure out where we are, where we want to be, and how we can best get there.

Bring a dish to contribute to the groaning board (it sure was that last time!), whatever you
want to drink, and a lawn chair, if you have one. We’re hoping the weather will have cooled off
enough so some of us can sit outside.

Folks, this isn’t about being Conservative or Liberal, Republican or Democrat, Libertarian or Independent. It’s about being American.

Bring a friend, a neighbor. We welcome a variety of perspectives, opinions and ideas.

T 9 C To Host TEA Party Open House in Eldorado

With all the talk nationwide about the TEA Party movement, the T 9 C Ranch in Eldorado has invited all West Texas TEA Party organizations to its facility on August 28 to showcase their programs.  And, persons interested in joining and/or learning more about the movement are invited to come talk to the various representatives at this gathering.  To date TEA partiers from Abilene, Ballinger, Barnhart, Big Lake, Big Spring, Buffalo Gap, Christoval, College Station, Crane, Eden, Eldorado, Fort McKavett, Fort Stockton, Fredericksburg, Greenwood, Iraan, Junction, Mason, McCamey, Menard, Mertzon, Midland, Odessa, Ozona, Robert Lee, San Angelo, Sonora and Wimberley have indicated interest in attending.

The TEA Party movement is a recent national grassroots phenomenon growing in strength each month.  It is not a political party, but rather individuals interested in fiscal responsibility and limited government.  TEA Party chapters are springing up throughout Texas and the nation, and while these are independent organizations, all seem intent on reintroducing citizens to their history and Constitution, and finding candidates for office that will govern based on our founding fathers’ wisdom.

Many voters, confused by the rhetoric of mainstream media, would like to learn more about the TEA Party movement.  This event hosted by the T 9 C Ranch offers the perfect opportunity to visit with a TEA group located near your voting precinct.  For more information contact Jim Runge at rungini@hotmail.com.

Anyone interested in carpooling to Eldorado for the T 9 C Open House, please email Ken Casper at kencasper336@gmail.com. Give him your name and address, how many in your party, whether you want to drive or ride along, and if you want to drive, how many passengers you can take. He’ll try to match people up. We can share expenses, save all that valuable foreign oil and enjoy each other’s company on the long journey to taking back our country.

SATP Meeting Change of Venue

Due to a scheduling conflict, the August 10th meeting of the San Angelo TEA Party will be held at PAULA SUE’S RESTAURANT, 1911 S. Bryant Blvd., instead of our usual location – Nacho’s Restaurant. Business will start promptly at 6:30pm. Please consider coming earlier to eat and visit. The restaurant is not charging us for the room, so your patronage is encouraged. Plus, having most of the meal-serving and dish-gathering finished before business commences, should help minimize distractions and noise. Agenda information for this meeting will be forthcoming, but I wanted you to know now about the location change.

Citizen Activist Training & Political Pot Luck

The San Angelo TEA Party is sponsoring a Citizen Activist Training August 17th, 6:00 to 9:30 pm at The Heights Baptist Church. Make plans to attend now, and bring your friends. The cost is reasonable, and you save $5 by registering on line prior to the event. The attached flyer has all the information, including a link to register. Come and learn how to be an effective Citizen Activist.

Citizen Action Committee

Many had expressed the desire for a better defined avenue through which to be involved and informed, and we appreciate your patience and continued support while the framework for this was being developed. The San Angelo TEA Party, Inc. is excited to announce the launching of its Policy Education Committee, the vehicle we believe will answer this need. Through mutual agreement of the board of directors and committee members, the name has been changed to Citizen Action Committee to better define its purpose.

There is so much happening today that it is difficult if not impossible to keep up with it all. However, if we as individuals or small groups focus on a particular area of interest, become well versed in that area, and report back to the organization as a whole, we all benefit. The Citizen Action Committee will spearhead and coordinate this effort. A big Thank You to the committee members for the work and time invested. Great job!

Following is the document written by the Citizen Action Committee to further explain its structure and action steps developed thus far. Notice that dates have been set for activist training and organizing our Get Out The Vote, as well as our first political pot luck supper. Mark your calendars!

Restoring Honor Rally in DC

For anyone interested in attending the 8-28 Restoring Honor Rally in DC, the San Antonio TEA Party has chartered a bus at a cost of $220.00 per person. It will leave at 8:00 a.m. on August 25 and return on August 29th. It will arrive in DC on the 26th so attendees can attend the 27th events also.
